Apple Pie Written By: Shantel Whitford Prep Time: 30 minutes Cook Time: 45 - 50 minutes Print Recipe Ingredients 3/4 cup shortening 2 cups flour (plus 1/4 cup for dusting) 5 Tbsp cold water 1/4 tsp salt 6 - 7 cups thinly sliced and peeled apples 1/2 cup sugar 3 Tbsp flour 1 tsp cinnamon 1/2 tsp nutmeg Instructions In a mixing bowl, measure 2 cups of flour with ¼ tsp salt. Add ¾ cup of shortening and use a fork to mix it all together, blending the shortening with the flour until it is about pea-sized chunks. Add the 5 Tbsp cold water and mix until it forms a ball. Let it sit. In a new bowl, mix the rest of the ingredients until well combined. Take half of the pie crust dough out of the bowl, dust your counter with some flour and use a rolling pin to roll out the pie crust. Place pie crust in an 8-9 inch pie plate. Add the apple filling. Roll out the other half of the pie crust dough. For a lattice crust, use a pizza cutter to slice long strips and arrange on top of pie. For a solid crust place on top once it is rolled out. If using a solid crust, slice a few cuts for steam to escape while pie is baking. Bake pie at 375 for 45-50 min or until the apple filling is bubbling.
