Cinnamon Rolls

Written By: Shantel Whitford

Prep Time: 1 hour

Cook Time: 20 to 30 minutes

Ingredients

  • Dough
  • 1 3/4 cup warm water about 140 degrees
  • 2 packets of dry active yeast or 2 Tbsp yeast
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 1/2 cup or 1 stick of butter melted/softened
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 6 cups flour
  • Filling
  • 1.5 cups brown sugar
  • 1 stick of butter melted
  • 3 Tbsp cinnamon

Instructions

Preheat oven to 375. In a large bowl mix together warm water, yeast, and sugar. Let sit for a few minutes until yeast starts to foam. Add eggs, butter, salt, and 3 cups of flour and mix well. Add the remaining 3 cups of flour and knead for 6 to 8 minutes until the dough is soft. Let set on the counter for 30 minutes under a towel. Once the dough has risen, punch down and roll out on a floured surface. Try to roll in a rectangle so it is easier to roll up your cinnamon rolls. Once you have the dough rolled out to the desired thickness, (remember it will rise when it is baked) spread out melted butter, brown sugar, and cinnamon. Then fold in the two ends and roll from the bottom to the top. I like to slice this in half, then those in half and those in thirds. This will give you 12 even cinnamon rolls. Place cinnamon rolls in a lightly greased deep dish or pan with about 1 inch between each one. Bake at 375 for 20 to 30 minutes or until golden brown.

Who doesn’t love cinnamon rolls anytime? I love to make a double batch of the dough when I am making dinner rolls and save half for cinnamon rolls, either for dessert or for breakfast the next morning. The great thing about this dough is you can make it and keep it in your refrigerator for up to 2 days before you bake it. It is a great item to be able to make ahead and wow your guests with freshly baked goodies. You can also add raisins or walnuts to the recipe to change them up a bit. The kids love when I make a cream cheese frosting to smother the top of them with. I like them plain with a little melted butter. Any way you like them, you are sure to enjoy these easy to make cinnamon rolls!
